Form Confirmation
Form Confirmation settings let you decide what happens after someone submits a form. It helps you create a clear and engaging experience for users by displaying messages or redirecting them to another page or URL.
For example, you display a thank you message to a user or send them on a different page after they submit your form. This way, you can guide users on what to expect next and keep them informed.
In this article, we’ll explore the available options for form confirmation and show you how to set them up.
How Form Confirmation Works
After the user submits the form, here are some ways you can redirect them:
- Display a success/thank you message: Show a message confirming the form was successfully submitted.
- Redirect users to a different page: Send users to another page on your site or to a custom URL of your choice.
- Reset or hide your form: Hide the form entirely or reset it after the user submits the form.
This flexibility allows you to customize how users interact with your forms. Next, let’s go through these options and learn how to set them up.
Display A Thank You Message To Users
You can display a success or thank you message to users once they submit a form. This message confirms the form submission and provides any additional information or instructions you want users to know.
For example, if you’re running a newsletter, you can display a message like: “Thank you for subscribing! Please check your email to confirm your subscription.”
To set this up:
- Select the preferred form and open it in the editor.
- Here, go to Form Confirmation.
- Select “Success Message” here and write your message in the following textbox.
Note: You can format the message using different styles, fonts, images, or shortcodes. We’ll explore more of this in the next sections.
- If you prefer, you can edit your success message using HTML. To do this, go to the “HTML” tab here.
Once done, click the Save button in your editor to save these changes.
Now, when users submit your form, they will see your custom confirmation message.
Redirect Users To A Page On Your Site
Instead of displaying a message, you can redirect users to another page on your WordPress site after they submit the form.
For example, if your form collects contact information for a free consultation, you might redirect users to a booking page where they can schedule their session.
To do this:
- Go to “Redirect” and select Page.
- Under the “Select Page” dropdown, select the preferred page from your WordPress site where you want the users to be redirected.
Click Save. Users will automatically be sent to the chosen page once they fill out your form.
Redirect Users To An External URL
You can also redirect users to an external site or a custom site URL after they submit your form. This is great if you want users to access content outside your site, such as a partner website or a specific landing page. To do this:
- Under “Redirect”, select Custom URL.
- Here, enter the URL you want users to be redirected to after submission.
Make sure the URL follows the correct format: https://www.example.com.
After you enter the URL, click Save to apply the changes.
Control Form Behavior After Submission
After a user submits your form, you can control what the form does. To do this, go to “Sucess Message” and enter your success message.
Under “After Form Submission”, select any one of the following:
- Hide Form: Your success message will be shown and the form will be hidden. Users can view the empty form again by refreshing the page.
- Reset Form: If you select this option, the form will show the success message just below the form on the same page. All of the fields that your user has filled will be reset right after they click on the submit button.
Once selected, click on the Save button.
Customizing Your Thank You Message
SureForms provides multiple options for customizing your success message to match your brand’s style and needs. Here are some of these options:
Formatting Your Thank You Message
Customization elements like bold, underlining, lists, strikethrough, alignment, headings, and more help you structure and emphasize important information.
For example, using bold for key dates or details ensures they stand out. You can also insert images like icons, logos, or banners to make your message visually engaging.
To do all this, adjust the settings available on the following bar:
Use Shortcodes For Personalized Success Messages
You can also improve your thank you message by adding dynamic elements like the user’s email or name. This personalization helps create a more engaging experience for users.
For example, by using the shortcode {form:srfm-input}, you can greet users personally after they submit the form. The name will be used based on what users enter while they fill out your form.
To do this, click the Add Shortcode dropdown button and choose any shortcode from the “Form input tags” section.
These shortcodes represent the form fields in your form, allowing SureForms to personalize the success message based on the answers users provided.
In addition to user-specific data, you can also use shortcodes to display other form-related information. For example, submission date, site title, and more. To access them go to “Generic tags”:
Once done, click Save. Here’s how these shortcodes will be shown to your users.
You can also use query parameters to transfer form data between pages or customize user redirects after form submission. You can learn more about it here.
