Google reCAPTCHA

Google reCAPTCHA is used in forms to check if the user is a real person or a bot, helping to prevent spam and abuse.

It adds an extra layer of security to protect websites from automated attacks.

SureForms lets you add different versions of reCAPTCHA to your forms.

Multiple reCAPTCHA Versions

Google offers two reCAPTCHA versions:

reCAPTCHA v3 is the newest and generally recommended. It runs silently in the background and gives a score based on what users do on the site.

reCAPTCHA v2 is the older version that gives you these two options:

1. “I’m not a robot” Checkbox

With the reCAPTCHA v2 Checkbox, users prove they are not robots by clicking a checkbox that says “I’m not a robot.”

Sometimes, they might also need to solve a simple puzzle.

2. Invisible reCAPTCHA badge

With this invisible reCAPTCHA badge, no user interaction is required. Like v3, it works silently in the background.

Unlike v3 however, it doesn’t provide any user score.

While you can use both v2 and v3 on your website, we recommend you enable only one type of reCAPTCHA per form at a time.

How to Enable Google reCAPTCHA for Your Forms

First, go to the Google reCAPTCHA admin console and follow these steps:

Generating reCAPTCHA Keys in Google Console

  • Provide the desired label name.
  • Select the reCAPTCHA version that you’d like to use.
  • Enter the domain URL here. Do not enter “https://www” in the beginning, just enter the domain. For example, “google.com”.

Note: Google only allows live domain URLs to be registered.

  • Click on the Submit button.

Copy the Site and Secret Key in the following screen. We’ll be using these in the next steps.

Adding the Google Keys in SureForms

Switch back to your WordPress dashboard and go to SureForms Settings.

  • Go to the Spam Protection tab.
  • Under reCAPTCHA, select the version you created in the admin console. We’ll select “v2 Checkbox” for now.
  • Paste the Site Key and the Secret key respectively.

Once entered, the keys will be saved automatically.

Adding Google reCAPTCHA to Your Form

Note: If you are using two forms on the same page with the different reCAPTCHA versions (V2 checkbox and V3), it will create conflicts between the versions.

Now that you have configured the Google keys, we’ll add the reCAPTCHA element to the form. To do this:

  • Select the form where you want to add Google reCAPTCHA.
  • Go to Advanced > Anti-Spam Settings in the form editor.
  • Select Google reCAPTCHA under “Security Type”.
  • Here, select the reCAPTCHA version that you just configured. In our case, it is “v2 Checkbox”.
  • Click on the Save/Publish button.

The reCAPTCHA should be added to your form. Preview it to verify the changes.

That’s all! Now, you can add the reCAPTCHA element to any form you’d like!
